Taylor Mill Roof Repair That Matches the Roof You Have
We trace a leak or damaged area to its cause, show you photos of what we found, and repair it with materials that match your existing roof. You hear the cost and your options before any work is scheduled.

When fixing one spot is enough
A leak rarely means the whole roof has failed. In most cases water finds one weak point: a cracked rubber boot around a vent pipe, flashing that has pulled away from a chimney, a few shingles lifted by wind, or a valley where leaves have held water too long. Close that one point properly and the rest of the roof keeps working.
Repair is the sensible choice when the shingles around the problem still lie flat, keep their granules and bend without cracking. If the whole field is brittle or curling, patching one area just sends the water to the next weak spot, and we will say so plainly. Our roof replacement page covers what happens in that case.
Northern Kentucky winters freeze and thaw over and over, and each cycle pries small gaps a little wider. Dealing with a repair early keeps water out of the decking and insulation, which is where costs start to rise.
What a roof repair includes
- Finding the real entry point
- Water often travels along the decking before it drips onto a ceiling. We check the attic side and the roof side so the repair lands where the water actually enters, not where the stain appears.
- Flashing and pipe boots
- We reseal or replace step flashing, chimney counterflashing and vent pipe boots. These are the most common leak sources we see, and they are usually a small, contained job.
- Shingle replacement, matched by eye
- Damaged shingles are removed and replaced with the closest match in profile and color we can source. New shingles are hand-nailed and sealed into the courses around them so the repair lies flat.
- Decking under the damage
- If the plywood or boards underneath have gone soft, we cut out the rotted section and install new sheathing before any shingles go back down. Shingling over soft wood does not hold.
- Valleys and ridge caps
- Open or worn valleys, and ridge caps cracked by sun and cold, are rebuilt with fresh underlayment and properly lapped material.
Signs your roof needs repair
A stain on the ceiling
A brown ring or bubbling paint, even a dry one, means water has reached the inside. It rarely stops on its own.
Shingles missing or creased
After a strong wind, look for bare patches or shingles with a line across them where they folded back. A creased shingle has lost its seal and will lift again. Wider wind or hail damage is covered on our storm damage repair page.
Grit piling up at the downspouts
A young roof sheds a little loose grit as it settles. When an older roof leaves thick drifts of it in the gutters or at the downspout outlets, the shingles are wearing thin in places.
Drips during winter thaws
Water that shows up only when snow melts often points to ice backing up at the eaves or poor attic ventilation.
Daylight or damp wood in the attic
Pinholes of light, dark stains on rafters, or a musty smell tell us where to look first.
How a repair visit runs
- 1
A short phone call
You tell us what you are seeing and where. We set a time to come out for a free estimate.
- 2
A close look, documented
We check the damaged slope up close and, if there is safe access, the attic below it. You see pictures of each problem we find, along with a plain account of what caused it.
- 3
Your options and price
We lay out the repair, what it costs and why. If replacement is the better value, we say so and show you the reason.
- 4
Repair day
We protect plantings and set ladders where they will not mark your siding or gutters. Most single-area repairs are finished in one visit.
- 5
Cleanup and a final look
Old shingles and nails are hauled away, and a magnet sweeps the beds and driveway. We send photos of the finished work.

Where the price of a repair comes from
We give a number only after we have seen the damage up close, because the hidden layers under the shingles decide most of it. Swapping a cracked pipe boot is a small job, while a chimney leak that has softened the wood beneath is a larger one. New customers can also use our current offer: Limited Time — $50 Off Your First Service Call.
- Size and location of the damage
- One cracked boot costs less than a wide area of wind-torn shingles. Damage near a chimney, skylight or wall takes more careful flashing work.
- How steep and how high
- A steeper pitch means roof jacks, harnesses and a slower pace for every shingle. Second-story eaves and narrow side yards also add setup time.
- Condition of the decking
- Sound wood means a surface repair. Soft or rotted sheathing has to be cut out and replaced first.
- Matching discontinued shingles
- Older shingle lines are sometimes no longer made. Finding the closest match, or blending from a less visible slope, can affect the price.
Roof repair questions
Something not covered here? (859) 214-7947
Is my roof still worth fixing, or is it time to replace it?
When the damage sits in one area and the surrounding shingles still bend easily and hold their granules, fixing that area is usually the better value. A roof that is brittle, curling or letting water in at several spots will cost more in repeated patches than it saves. We photograph the damaged section and the roof around it so you can see why we recommend one or the other.
Will the new shingles match my roof?
We source the closest match in style and color available. Shingles weather over time, so a fresh repair may look slightly brighter at first and tends to blend in over a season or two. If your shingle line is discontinued, we explain the options before we start.
Does insurance pay for roof repairs?
Policies usually cover sudden damage from wind or hail, not wear from age. We can photograph what we find and walk you through it. Whether the claim is paid is up to your insurance company and its adjuster, not us.
Will the repair be done in a day?
Work on a single area usually takes part of one day. Replacing decking or rebuilding flashing around a chimney can stretch longer, and we tell you how long to expect when we give you the price.
Can you repair a roof in winter?
Yes, on dry days above freezing. Shingle sealant needs some warmth to bond fully, so in cold weather we hand-seal the tabs to make sure they hold.
